Diggs, quiet??

Subject: Diggs, quiet?? Tue Dec 07, 2010 9:34 pm

Today, it was sunny, and hot. Awful. The sun beat down feroiciously on the pavement making it steam, almost. The water in the lakes and pools was so hot it boiled and all the swimming places had to be shut down other wise you would have human stew. Okay, not really, but still. It was close. Cori loved days like this, and joyfully went out to bask and catch some rays. I despised sunny days. Days that were cold, and sunny, I could handle. But this hot, not for me. When rain pounded the windows, and saturated the ground, so that the soil couldn't hold any more and puddles and rivulets formed, that was when I was happy. I had made it my lifetime goal that as soon as I had saved the world and defeated all the evil Shadows, I would move to Ireland. Not that I cared much for potatoes, but I would figure out how to eat something else. Today, it was not nice and rainy. So I retreated from my normal business, and picked up War and Peace, by Leo Tolstoy. It was insanly thick, and boring, but I had nothing better to do, so I shut myself down, and read.

I was gasping like a fish out of water as I collapsed into the alley. "I don't know, 2% or regular," I said, breathing hard. I felt hot and sticky, sweat was pouring into my eyes and making them sting. I leaned on the flimsy door, but it didn't open. I didn't think I could handle being in the sun very much longer. My sweat felt like butter in a hot pan, sizzling on my skin. I wracked my brain. Usually the password phrases contained one keyword that would unlock the voice-censored lock. I remembered something about a movie. "Movie?" I tried hopefully. No luck. Maybe I could just take this door down. It was so hot, I'd just been out running all day in the heat, I was gonna die of heat stroke. "Oh my gosh!" I exclaimed, kicking a dumpster. The lock clicked and I could have screamed. I calmly went inside and descended into the cool depths of the jailhouse. I emerge from the stairwell and glance around the living room, my eyes resting on someone reading but not really registering who it was. I passed, entering the kitchen and pouring myself a huge glass of icy water. I downed it in one gulp, and poured another glass, draining that one, too. "Ahh.." I ran my head under the sink, shivering when it hit my face. So cold....I pushed my hair back and walked back into the living room, collapsing on the floor. Carefully, I untie my running shoes and peel of my socks. Then I fall back on the rug, stretching out on my back and closing my eyes. I felt refreshed.

Just when I had fully put aside and filed away all the other thoughts swarming my head like ants around food, some one barges in on me. Soon after they leave, and it takes me at least five more minutes just to settle in again and stay focused. The person reetners the room, and fills it with a foul stench. Peeved, I slam my book park in between the pages, and thump my book on the table near me. I look up, and stare icily at the girl. What did you just do? I ask shocked. She was a wreck.

"What do you mean; what did I just do?" I asked the voice. My eyes were still closed, I was enjoying the feel of the floor on my back. "I ran five miles, and then I couldn't remember the password for the freaking door. Then I stuck my head under the faucet. And here I am."

} Well, let it go, I don't know what I am doing either, but it's not like they are going to see each other and automatically forgive each other and then be best friends just like that.

I knew this girl....her hair gave it away. But where did I know her from. I mentally scan my files in my head, and try to place where I had seen her. Junkyard. Right. That little brat! I growl. I pick my book back up, and try to read. I phailed.

I opened one eye and eyed the girl. I could recognize her from a mile away. The snotty girl from the junkyard that was only there so she could look tough to her snotty boyfriend or whatever. Well, I wasn't about to be nice to her. I was a little shocked that she was a star, too, and it sucked because I would have to see her everyday. "So, were they impressed?" I asked her, knowing I was being a little mean. "Your friends, I mean. With your new "image", tough girl?"

My friends are dudes, they don't notice stuff like that. Besides, I didn't change anything about me. I've always been like this. I tell her still staring hard at the pages in my book untill the words blurred up. I could stay calm. I could control myself. I take deep breath, hissing through my teeth on the exhale.

"Oh yeah, like I totally believe that." I rolled my eyes. What a ton of baloney.

You have no reason not to believe me. What did I do to you? I ask her, slamming my book down and glaring at her.

"Oh, I don't know," I said sarcastically. "I helped you find a stupid tire for your frickin bug and then you took off in your shiny truck and then didn't offer me a ride, because your fancy panties were in a wad because I insulted your prissy school."

I gesture to her dripping body. It seemed like you liked running enough you wouldn't want a ride from a 'hoity toity priss' like me anyway.

I let out a laugh that sounded a little friendlier. "You got that one right," I said, smiling at her, a little daringly.

I don't know. A while? I say wildly guessing. I knew I was one of the first people here; right after Cori and Roxy. I didn't know when that was.

Oh. I usually am out working, staying up late and getting up early. I'm not much for the 'family' dinners and stuff that Roxy and Cori love to promote. I mutter, wishing I could try a little harder to be part of the family we would never be.
