"What, is there something wrong with being a jock?" I crumpled up my energy bar wrapper and threw it at him, my eyes sparkling in amusement.

"Excuse me for not trusting you at first sight, but those guys have tormented me since first grade," I say pointing at the football players. "I just really don't trust popular kids and athletes," I finish giving the other girl a look, silently pleading her to sit down.

"You think that I am popular?" I say incredulously. "You are way off, buddy."

"You're an athlete. Being popular kinda goes with that," I say. I smiled as the other girl sat back down. She was the first friend I'd ever made. She might not have told me her name yet, but I had a feeling it would work out that way.

I am truly puzzled by his answer. My athlete friends were hard working, sweat covered, go go go type of people. I never thought others thought we were...cool. It was a new idea. I certainly didn't like it, but then again it felt kind of cool, like you were admired. I open my mouth to speak, then close it again.

"Wow. You're actually speechless," I say in mock interest. "You didn't even know you were popular did you. Maybe I should've kept my mouth shut. I already have to deal with the football team. The track team would just be too much," I tell her. "You might know what I'm talking about," I say turning to the other girl. "By the way you still haven't told me your name."

"I know, right?" I say in a OMG! type of voice. "I mean, it's a revelation!" I make a big deal of tossing my ponytail over my shoulder like I have seen all the cheerleaders do. I roll my eyes, then focus on the quiet girl, the one that has barely spoken this whole time. "Yeah, what is your name? Are you new?"

Kirsten. I've been in this town since I was two or three, and I can't remeber anything before stumbling into the arms of a man in a long dark coat. He took me to the foster care home place, and its the only home I have ever known. I went through school with half the people they speak of. And not one of them knows my name. I know everything about them, and their names, and their problems. I'm the onlooker. I care about those who will never give me a second thought. I'm not a stalker, I am a watcher. Any one can know things about people if they try, if they care enough. I longed to say more than just my name, and a million thoughts slammed into me, but I bit my lip softly, and shushed myself. They didn't want to know about me. They only cared about themselves; selfish. But I hoped that they would prove to be different from others. Besides, they were sitting with me, right?

I smile at the dramatic tone of Arty. "Anyways, What kinda things do you guys do outside school?" I ask.

"What do you think?" I said dryly. "I run." I thought for a moment. "And I look after my baby brother, who's always getting into trouble." And I escape from Them, destroy grocery stores, get chased by cops and live in an abandoned jailhouse with a large group of mismatched stars.

No, they didn't care. Just thought to be nice, and ask my name. I sigh, and sink lower in my seat. They knew each other, they were friends. I was again, the onlooker.

"Of course I knew what you do. I was mostly asking Kirsten," I say to Arty. "She doesn't talk nearly as much as you do and I still feel like I know her better," I add as I turn to Kirsten and wait for her to answer my question.

"Well I am so sorry you were speaking to Kirsten." I laugh and rest by chin on my elbow. I glance up at the clock, ten minutes left of lunch, then more school, then more school. And then, finally I could run away from this place. Quite literally speaking.

"I was trying to seem nice. Even if I don't want to be. I don't exactly have a lot of good experience with your kind," he said putting emphasis on the last word, accidentally making it seem like he was implying more than he was.

"Cool," I tell her. Sometimes I wish I could do something practical like that or something, but no. I was a computer nerd. I was also probably the only person in this room who could hack through the schools firewall and commandeer the bells to end school early.

And alot of other sports. I mutter thinking back to the time I was forced into wrestling and rugby. I grin.

"Cool. You'll probably get noticed more with sports. Unfortunately no one told me that computers were one of the outcast skills," I say joking. "Just try to stay out of football," I tell her.

Rugby is worse, but yes football is not too great. I say smiling.

"Well, I'd better go," I said, standing up. "I have detention later and need some fresh air before I have to go back to the prison that is school. So see you later, I guess. And," I forced myself to say, "The geek table's not so bad." I dumped my tray and passed their table again. "Nice meeting you, Kirsten."

"Can't stand football," I say looking at the team a few tables away. "I suppose it has to be better than being alone though," I say a bit sadly. I let out a sigh wishing I had at least some kind of family. I waved good bye to Arty as she left. She wasn't bad for an athlete.
