My ice like eyes flit across the water and shore. No one around, right? I carefully peel away layers of dark heavy clothing, and strip down to a bathing suite. I hated being so exposed. Before I can change my mind, I plunge into the watery depths. I poke my head out of the water, just enough for my nose and eyes to be above surface. My hair floats behind me like an arch. I felt vunerable, and way too unprotected.

Lazarus decided to venture outdoors: it was nearing dusk and was overcast on top of that, but it was still his first walk out of the Fortress of Them that wasn't covered by the darkest of nights. He reveled in those nights: every time he left the stars seemed to diminish before his eyes until there was nothing left, until he could see nothing but darkness... of course then he'd wake up back inside and be told that he blacked out sometime during his walk, that's why the stars vanished, but either way, it was a lovely and comforting thought to know that the vast sky was slowly blending into one, rich, beautiful shade of dark.

The water was nice: the light reflecting off the waves was almost cute to him: how whatever shed this light on the world thought it could withstand the fate that bound them all to destruction. Its defiance fueled his thoughts: that is, until he saw the girl in the water.

The girl. The girl! There was a certain light about her, something that Lazarus could hardly bear watching. However, she was so enticing... the King was sure to be pleased if he brought back such a girl. He knelt by the brush some yards from the water, watching her to see if she was slight enough for him to capture single-handed.

However... if she could be converted! All the better! She could accept her fate quietly, even tell her friends...! The prospect was exciting.

KC hears something, and turns quickly to that direction. A boy crouches at the edge of the water; she was trapped. Oh bad. She swims backward, feeling his cold stare drilling into her.

Lazarus's grin almost split his jaw, it was so wide: he giggled to himself at the girl's discomfort. He lifted a hand and beckoned her to the shore.

What did he want from her? No way was she swimming to the shore to put herself in more danger than need be. Instead, she paddled hard the opposite direction, and nearly screamed when she hit the shore. On the bottom of the lake, she grabs and smooth, round pebble about the size of a golf ball. She rolls it around in her fingers, flashing back to when she lived with the baseball enthusiasts for a year and a half, and they had pushed her to go out for baseball. She was only a good out fielder and pitcher, but couldn't hit the ball if it was a bomb about to blow her up unless she deflected. Should she throw it?

Obviously the beckoning wasn't going to work, so Lazarus decided to improvise. He left the cover of the bushes and strode along the short dock, examining the waves before him. The man kicked off his sapogi and pulled his jacket off, leaving it on his jackboots. Then he unclipped his shoulder holster, which had been hidden under the jacket until now, and left it on the ground. The handgun, however, went into a boot. Then his long-sleeved shirt came off, and his belt, and he took a few running steps before diving into the cool water.

KC started freaking out right about when the guy got up. When he dove into the water making a reasonably large wave that pushed her, she started to hyperventalate. Okay, not really, but just about. She gripped the stone tighter in her hand, and scrambled to find one for the other hand. What did he want anyway? She wasn't attractive or anything. Thats when it hit her. What if she was, and he was going to rape her. She needed to calm down, but memories of foster parents flashed before her eyes. The time she was with the couple that had the immaculate house, and had seemed nice, but turned out to be stars on the internet for unpleasantries. Then the one time she was at her favorite house with her favorite foster mother, and her 'mother' was beat by the post office man because she wouldn't do what he wanted. KC tried to calm herself, and took a few deep breaths through her nose. It was fine. This guy was friendly. She tried to convince herself by picturing the guy that was rapidly approaching her surrounded with hearts, flowers, and cute little kittens that were all plump and well fed; her method wasnt working too well.

The girl looked scared witless. Poor her. It wasn't every day a wiry man with a concealed weapon and shadows consuming half his face went swimming with her. Lazarus took a deep breath and ducked under the water, letting off air as he dropped further. He kept his eyes open as he neared her feet, and gave the left foot a gentle tug: not enough to pull her down, just to scare her. He lost the rest of his air supply in a short giggle, and came back to the surface for air.

Maybe she was a star, and maybe she wasn't: Lazarus was beginning to second-guess his original diagnosis. Why would a star be out here in this weather anyway? And he didn't remember her from the Hideout-- though, to be fair, he didn't remember anyone, really, aside from Roxy. The rest of his memory was still covered in weird black spots, like a destroyed videotape.

Maybe he didn't have to take her to the King. Maybe he just had to play with her a little.

Despite herself, KC screamed. When the mans large hand touched her foot, she cried out. It was all just so creepy. Then he popped up laughing like a little boy that has just done something to make his mother mad. This guy wasn't normal. He acted different, and didn't seem like another human just like her. What if all those stories she had read really were true and he was a hybrid vampire!? And this is why she needed to get out more. Closed off from society could drive you crazy. Or at least drive you witless. Make you scared of everything. Or maybe, if this guy was like her (always keeping to himself) it could make you scared of nothing. She stared at him with her icy eyes, and tried to speak, but all that came out was a strangled squeak.

"You don't have to speak if you don't want to, little girl, but I'd prefer if you did," Lazarus said with a toothy smile before diving back down below the waters. He swam in a full circle around her and prodded her belly gently with his foot as he passed.

Holy Crap! She thinks to herself, suddenly very aware of her body. He was going to hurt her, and do what ever perversely minded men like himself did. What do you want? She practiacally whispers scared that if she talked any louder it would cause him to attack her.

Lazarus rose to the surface at her left side, just behind her. "Sorry, whisper that again, girlie? Can't hear you underwater, you know." He twirled a wet strand of her hair around on his finger and whistled a tune, thankfully quiet since it was so off-key.

KayCee tried to kick him away, but her leg just slid across his; why had she shaved that morning? What do you want? She repeats, but it comes out more like a squeak; her bravery quickly dwindling.

"I only want to play, darling. Calm down a little," he says with a grin, slipping back under the water until he's beneath her, running his fingers across the bottoms of her feet.

KayCee slams her feet down hoping she would hit his face. She paddles out a few feet away from him, and tries to go under without him noticing. After she got under, her Mission: Escape didn't go much further.

Lazarus was caught with the feet flat in the chest, unfortunately, which made him lose all his air. He swam back up to the surface and drew a breath, glancing at where KayCee once was before diving back down and opening his eyes up in the murk to look for her.

Now he caught a glimpse of her foot once more. She was back at the surface, but this was a chance he might not get again. He risked the loss of all his air and possibly any chance of ever tasting anything nice ever again for one moment of shock as he opened his mouth and slid his tongue over the arch of her foot.

Her heel glanced off his chin. While he realized it was a bad idea and now his chin was in pain as a consequence, her reaction was so funny to him that it didn't matter anymore. Lazarus spun in the water and rose back up, taking a large gulp of air to fill his lungs again.
