"I'm sorry, but I don't use those terms." My voice was tight. Just a second ago I thought Alice was listening to me, that she might actually see what I meant....but no. She was just as self centered as the rest of them, I could see that now. All she cared about was being loved-I thought that was interesting. She wanted to be loved, and yet didn't know how love felt at all. I used to be like that, to think I knew. She didn't know what she was missing, but what could I say? I was the "golden boy" the heir to the kingdom of Them. I wasn't supposed to think these things. They were supposed to look up to me, because if anyone should hate and kill Fallen, it was me, wasn't it? If I told Preston these things, he wouldn't understand, I was certain. So, Alice had briefly glimpsed the real Devoid E. Vil. So what? No one would believe her.

Preston. Man, she was gorgeous. I hoped she wasn't already 'with' someone. Especially not Dev. He already was better than all of us, he didn't need to have the hottest girl either.

"Preston" I repeated under my breath. I had almost forgotten Dev was here. "So you two know each other?" I asked. It seemed Preston thought they were closer then the actually were, or was Dev just being cold? Haha cold. Right after he talked about all that warmth.

I hurled another quarter into the black waves. "One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten." I glanced at Alice, smug. Then, sullenly, I replaced my hands back into my pockets and said, "We know each other."

She almost considered throwing another stone. But no. 'What if Preston didn't like girls who threw rocks?' Because of course she couldn't do anything that would make Preston not love her. My voice was harsh when I spoke. "Why is everyone so freaking insecure around here?"

I flip up a stone on my shoe, and kick it up to my hand. I lightly flick my wrist, and let the stone fly. Only twelve. We know each other. Technically speaking.

Dev's words shocked me. I wasn't insecure, I was the most confident person I know. A small voice inside my head pointed out I had, only a moment ago, doubted myself. I pushed the thought aside. As Preston kicked up a stone and sent in flying across the dark waves I sighed and continued to resist picking up a stone and flinging it with all my might out into the black blanket of sea.

I reach down, and pull up another stone. It had a small white fleck in the middle, surrounded by a slick black. It was like the world. About to be drowned, enveloped, and strangled with darkness. Soon, we would take the light, and life in a world where simple personal pleasures no longer exsist. I hand the stone to her, and wink. You try. Not a doubt in my mind that she would best both of us.

"Why thank you" I said taking the stone with a flirtatious smile. I swung my arm back and then forward letting go of the stone and whatched as it skipped aross the sea thirteen times. I want superstitious, so I wasn't to worried about the number. But there was something terribly sincere about the way the stone was swallowed into the black sea. I pushed the ridiculous thought away and took a step closer to Preston "Actually, I was thinking about doing some star hunting myself. Would you like to accompany me?" I asked.

((It's really fast. I have like, a billion tabs open all the time, so I have to have something thin. It's also got tab stacking now, so I have like, tabs growing out of tabs... also the toolbar is really slim, which is nice, it's not a million miles down the page like IE was.))
