Keepin' up the Minor Cell

I stopped sweeping and stepped back, looking at the cell. Bunk beds lined the walls, some three beds high. As crowded as it was, it was...empty. The only thing that made the room more comfortable was a shag rug and the poster that I had put up. It was some cheesy thing that you would find on the ceiling of a dentist's office. It said,

ANYONE CAN BE A STAR!

Like that was supposed to make you feel better as your tooth was yanked out. There weren't that many kids in the Hideout lately, and I hoped that Them hadn't found them before they got here. I kept sweeping, and kept waiting.

I come in to the small cell for minor stars, and see my silly sister just standing there. I hop on my bunk, and look at her a few moments. Hi. I finally say.

"Hey, buttercup." I flash her a smile and stick my head under a bed. I almost choke from the dust. "Seen any fallen ones lately?"

My large smile falls from my face, and it's almost like you can hear it hit the floor and shatter. No. I say simply, I prefered not to go into detail about how little stars we had.

I finish sweeping. "Who would'a known that we would be here..." I trailed off. I needed to see the stars soon, I hadn't been out at night much. "We'll keep looking, okay?" I try to sound optimistic. "We'll try harder."

I try to adopt her positive mood, but I can't make myself feel like it will all be okay. There were supposed to be more of us, why weren't they falling? I was angry that we hadn't found any, and even more angry, that our parent star might have just wanted to get rid of us.

I can feel her anger. "I'm getting closer to my birthday," I say. "Already it's getting harder to control my emotions."

"That's what I meant," I say quickly. "I was just thinking about myself at the moment." I knew my sister had a hidden temper.

At that moment, right. Your always thinking about yourself. I mutter under my breath. I knew I could be self-centered, but siblings are always worse. I actually believed that.

She whispered something under her breath and my eyes narrowed. "We have a lot of work to do." I turned on my heel and walked away. "Turn off the light when you are done in there," I said briskly. "We need to save electricity.

Yeah, lotta work. I say sarcastically. I get up from my bunk in the cell, and grab my pocket knife, stuffing it down my shirt. What's first? I ask and then realize that my worst weakness was that I depended on her for too much, and I didnt know how to be a leader, she had always done if for me. I made a note to self to change that.
